Romney Press Shop Ramps Up Gingrich Attacks

Having seen his lead in national polls evaporate and desperate to reset the trajectory of the race before it’s too late, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign rolled out a fresh barrage of opposition research and negative talking points Monday morning, including a new website slamming Newt Gingrich: www.unreliableleader.com

The attacks were familiar, including the two favorites: a hit on Newt for doing a global warming PSA with Nancy Pelosi, and a reminder to conservative activists that he trashed Paul Ryan’s Medicare privatization scheme as “right-wing social engineering.”

Whether Romney will begin and maintain a barrage of negative television ads as he did against Mike Huckabee in the closing days of his desperate 2008 campaign remains unclear, though we have to assume the former Massachusetts governor and corporate executive has sufficient money on hand — and nothing to lose.
